Professor Tateda received his MD and PhD in Nagasaki University School of Medicine. He currently works as Professor at the Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Toho University, and the president of Japanese Association for Infectious Diseases, Japan. Previously he has experience from the department of microbiology and genetics from the University of Geneva and from the Department of respiratory and critical care medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. He conducted his residency in Internal Medicine at Nagasaki University.
