Renata Maria Augusto da Costa, Project Officer, Transversal Programmes GARDP, DNDi

Renata MA da Costa joined GARDP in February 2017 as a Project Assistant for the upstream, exploratory programme that GARDP has put into place, including the Antimicrobial Memory Recovery Initiative. A biologist, with a PhD in molecular and cellular biology, Renata has experience in leading and developing projects related to microbiology and genetic toxicology. Her first scientific research focused on genetic toxicology in cancer prone patients, conducted at the University of São Paulo in Brazil and the Gustave Roussy Institute in France. In addition, Renata worked on the development of a prophylactic and therapeutic vaccine against the oncogenic virus HPV18 at the Instituto Butantan in Brazil.

As assistant professor at Federal University of ABC, Brazil, Renata led projects on leptospirosis, a neglected tropical disease. In collaboration with Instituto Butantan, Brazil and MIT, USA, this research characterized the complex relation between host/pathogen and anti-microbial activity.
